MOORHEAD, Miss. (July 23, 2026) — Mississippi Delta Community College will expand its athletics offerings with the addition of women's volleyball, providing new opportunities for student-athletes while continuing the growth of Trojan Athletics.
The program will begin competition during the 2027-28 academic year as the college continues its commitment to enhancing the student experience through athletics. The addition of women's volleyball supports MDCC's strategic goals of increasing enrollment, expanding student opportunities, and strengthening campus engagement.
"The launch of our volleyball program marks an exciting milestone for Mississippi Delta Community College and represents a vision I have held for expanding opportunities for our students through athletics," said MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones. "As we continue to grow our athletic offerings, we are investing not only in competitive sports but also in the future of our institution. A diverse athletics program attracts talented student-athletes, enhances campus life, strengthens community pride, and contributes to increased enrollment and student engagement.
"We are committed to building a volleyball program that will compete at a high level while reflecting the excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship that define MDCC. We are excited to welcome our first volleyball student-athletes to campus and look forward to providing them with an exceptional collegiate experience—one that supports their academic success, athletic development, and personal growth. This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our college, and I can't wait to see what our future Trojan volleyball program will accomplish."
Women's volleyball continues to experience significant growth across Mississippi and the Mid-South, creating increased opportunities for student-athletes seeking to compete at the collegiate level. The addition of the program positions MDCC to recruit talented student-athletes while enriching campus life and expanding the college's athletic footprint.
"We're thrilled to announce the addition of a women's volleyball program," said MDCC Director of Athletics Tangela Banks. "This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering a diverse range of sports that promote teamwork, physical fitness, and Trojan spirit.
"Volleyball is not only a highly engaging sport but also encourages collaboration and camaraderie among players. We believe this new team will provide our students with a
fantastic opportunity to develop their skills, build lasting friendships, and represent our college with pride."
The college will immediately begin preparations for its inaugural volleyball season, including hiring a head coach, recruiting student-athletes and developing the program's competitive schedule.
Additional information about the volleyball program, including coaching announcements, recruiting opportunities and the inaugural competition schedule, will be announced in the coming months.
