MDCC BASEBALL 100 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE
As Mississippi Delta Community College celebrates 100 years of excellence, the Trojans baseball program will take the field with a tribute to the past, honoring a century of tradition, growth, and community impact.
Mississippi Delta Community College will celebrate a century of tradition, growth, and impact as the institution marks its 100-year anniversary. Established in 1926 as Sunflower Junior College, the school originally operated in conjunction with Sunflower Agricultural High School in Moorhead, Mississippi. From its earliest days, the institution was founded on a mission to provide accessible higher education and workforce training to students throughout the Mississippi Delta region a commitment that continues to define the college today.
Over the years, the college steadily expanded both its academic offerings and its influence across the region. By the late 1920s, it had already earned accreditation, signaling its dedication to academic excellence and institutional integrity. As the needs of the community evolved, so did the college. In 1960, the institution was renamed Mississippi Delta Junior College, reflecting its continued growth and broader reach. Nearly three decades later, in 1989, it adopted its current name Mississippi Delta Community College to better represent its mission of comprehensive community service, education, and workforce development.
Throughout its 100-year history, MDCC has played a vital role in shaping opportunities for generations of students, becoming a cornerstone of the Delta community. From academic achievement to athletic excellence, the college has built a legacy rooted in pride, resilience, and progress.
In recognition of this historic milestone, the MDCC baseball program will honor the past while competing in the present by wearing throwback jerseys. This tribute serves as a visual reminder of the program's deep roots and its connection to the many players, coaches, and supporters who have contributed to its success over the decades. As the team takes the field, they do so not only representing today's Trojans, but also carrying forward a century of tradition and excellence that continues to define Mississippi Delta Community College.
