Football brings in outstanding Signing Day haul
MOORHEAD – The Mississippi Delta Community College football program, under the direction of new head coach Cedric Thomas, brought in an impressive haul on National Signing Day 2021. Thomas and his coaching staff inked 28 prospects to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
Thomas was brought to MDCC on Dec. 30, but made an immediate impact on this year's class. "I thought that getting in at the time we did, we were able to keep some momentum due to the staff that was already in place being steadfast in our recruiting efforts," said Thomas.
"We were looking for culture fixers that we can bring in for a two to three year foundation, and for us, this started in our district," said Thomas. "Our goal was to start on the lines of scrimmage, which can really help us, and we were able to pick up a few additions there that can make an instant impact. A number of these young men come from really good programs, and they can help us change the culture because they know what winning looks like," Thomas continued.
"We were able to get three players from Northside High School that came really help us on the defensive side, and then were able to get a few from South Panola High School, and we all know what type of program that is." said Thomas.
Thomas, who came to Delta from the University of Southern Mississippi, has a good feel for the young men that will be entering the Moorhead campus in 2021.
"We are genuinely excited about the whole class, not just for their ability on the field, but they are truly our kind of guys," said Thomas. "We were looking for the best student-athlete we could find that could get MDCC back up and going, and this class is a good start to that."
