Trojans Aim Sight Towards Bulldogs
The Mississippi Delta Football Team is going on the road again. They will square off with Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi tomorrow, with kick-off being at 3:00 P.M. central standard time.
The Trojans are coming off a big road win at Northeast Mississippi Community College as they beat the Tigers 19-14 in the hard fought contest last Thursday night.
A Trojan win tomorrow, at Holmes County would put the Trojans at 4 wins and 4 loses, a record that the Football program at Mississippi Delta Community College has not seen for almost 20 years. This back to back road win would give Coach Thomas and his troops a chance to close out his first season at the helm with a winning record. Mississippi Delta has not witnessed a winning record, since Coach Miller's bunch went to the playoffs in the 2003 season. Coach Cedric Thomas served as an assistant coach for that team.
Asking the head coach what was positive this week in practice, he said," Retention, with a good understanding of our concepts as it relates to the schemes being put in for our opponent". Asked, what he was concerned about from Holmes, "Their Option…rarely used and hard to replicate. We will have to be disciplined, and they are good at it".
Finishing up our visit, I asked Coach who would be the key players on both sides of the ball? Without hesitation I was told that "we need every one of these guys to do their jobs well when called on for us to be successful". "We must have steady play from Stemarion Edward, Jeremiah Johnson and Tyler Smith on the defensive side of the ball and Jimmy Brown, Lorenzo Perez and Jalon Johnson on the offensive side of the ball".
No matter the outcome of these next two ballgames, we have witnessed a group of young men and their coaches having put in tremendous amounts of time and effort bettering their craft. Seeing these Trojans in the weight room, in film sessions, skull sessions, and practicing has truly been a joy to be around. The Trojan Nation is watching as these men turn the tide of the MDCC FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
