Trojans Hit the Road to Kickoff 2022 Season - Fresh Faces All Around
Thursday night lights will be shining bright as September rolls in and the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans open the season on the road at Southwest Community College. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. and the Trojans will be fielding a brand new head coach and plenty of new faces in Trojan uniforms. Head Coach Tavares Johnson is more than ready to see what his game-day Trojans look like. Sophomore quarterback Caleb Parten gets the call under center but will be protected by an all freshmen line that averages 6-feet, 4-inches and 331-pounds. The Trojans are relying on sophomore wideouts Raheem Fairley and Ladarius Moore to bring leadership to the young squad.
The defense will have plenty of fresh faces as well but sophomores Diancleef Pierrilus - defensive end and defensive tackles Drew Allbrooks and Austin Mitchell will wreak havoc up front. Three sophomore linebackers include Joshua Everett, CeDonte Miers and Marlon Brown look to roam the field and create a fast-paced defense. Jaylon Johnson will anchor the defensive backfield as the interception leader returns for his sophomore season.
Special teams will feature freshman kicker Davon Klein and sophomore punter Jarren Sanford.
"We are fresh all the way around but we aren't going to make any excuses," Coach Johnson said. "We have a great mixture of youth and talent. Our average age on the roster is 17 years and six months," he said. "We are young with great talent. The future is bright. The players have bought in and rallied behind me and the staff. We are ready to showcase what we do."
Looking at the tough JUCO league in the state of Mississippi, Coach Johnson has one plan.
"We aren't going to make any excuses. We're just going to line up and play."
