By Mark H. Stowers
Another tough night in the MACCC as the Hinds Community College Eagles (3-1, 1-0 MACCC South) scored 48 points and allowed none against the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans (0-4, 0-1 MACCC North). It looked promising early when the Trojans stopped the Eagles' first drive, but a penalty on a fourth-and-five gave the Eagles new life at their own 18-yard line. The Eagles advanced to their own 41 before a penalty pushed them back to their 36, where they punted on fourth-and-eight.
The Trojans punted away their next drive of six plays and 13 yards. The Eagles then put together their first scoring drive from their own six-yard line, where a Ceidrick Hunt 42-yard punt pinned them. The 12-play drive covered 94 yards, taking 5:11 off the clock.
Kiandre Terry scored on a nine-yard pass from Jaylon Ruffin (Wyatt Long kick) for the 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Eagles would reach the end zone three times in the second quarter: two offensive scores with a 66-yard pass from Ruffin to Braishun Forbes and a five-yard TD pass from Ruffin to Detraun Brown. The third score was a fumble recovery by the Eagles' Caleb Bryant, who returned it 38 yards to end the first half up 28-0 over the Trojans.
Hinds would score once more in the third on a 44-yard TD run by BJ Blake, pushing the lead to 35-0. In the fourth, the Eagles scored two more times and ended that game, 48-0.
Statistically, the Trojans achieved eight first downs, while the Eagles gained 25. The Trojans totaled 149 yards of offense—65 rushing and 84 passing. The Eagles amassed 486 yards—247 on the ground and 239 through the air. Trojans' Ceidrick Hunt punted six times for a total of 267 yards, with two punts over 50 yards, two inside the 20-yard line, and an average of 44.5 yards per punt. The Eagles punted three times, averaging 29.33 yards.
