The Mississippi Delta Community College men's basketball team continues to navigate a demanding conference schedule, showing flashes of potential while working to tighten execution and consistency as the season progresses.
January 6 | MDCC 89, Royal Ambassadors 81
The Trojans opened the stretch with an 89–81 victory over the Royal Ambassadors, improving their record to 6–6. After a long layoff, MDCC fell behind by eight points early, showing visible rust in the opening minutes. However, the momentum shifted when backup point guard Isaiah Davis sparked the Trojans with eight points in a two-minute stretch, igniting a run that swung control back to MDCC.
Nathan White led the Trojans with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Jordan Comanche added 14 points and 6 rebounds. Antron Mason II contributed an all-around effort with 12 points, 7 rebounds, two steals, and multiple fast-break finishes.
Despite building a strong lead, lapses in focus allowed the Royal Ambassadors to close the gap late. MDCC responded with solid execution down the stretch to secure the win.
"I tried to deliver a strong all-around game," Mason said. "I knew I needed to be active on both ends to help my teammates coming off the long layoff."
January 8 & January 12 – Road Losses
MDCC faced setbacks in back-to-back road contests, falling 69–58 to the Louisiana Knights on January 8, followed by a 78–68 loss to Copiah-Lincoln Community College on January 12. Both games highlighted areas for growth, particularly defensive communication and on-court chemistry.
January 15 | Pearl River 77, MDCC 71
The Trojans returned home and pushed Pearl River Community College to the limit in a tightly contested 77–71 loss, moving MDCC's record to 6–9.
MDCC played strong basketball for most of the night, with several key moments keeping the game within reach. Carter Mullins knocked down a crucial three-pointer to spark a late run, while Jordan Johnson converted key free throws to give MDCC the lead with 2:40 remaining. Jordan Comanche made big plays down the stretch, and Antron Mason II came up with two late steals to generate momentum.
However, a missed defensive assignment followed by a turnover allowed Pearl River to seize control late, converting the mistake into a momentum-shifting three-pointer.
"The Trojans played great for 37 minutes," head coach Derrick Fears said. "The mistakes made in the final two minutes and 30 seconds decided the game outcome."
Defensively, the Trojans showed improvement, holding Pearl River in check for long stretches before the late surge.
Looking Ahead
MDCC will look to regroup and apply lessons learned as they return to the road to face Meridian Community College today, January 20, at 7:30 p.m.
With continued emphasis on defensive intensity, communication, and trust, the Trojans aim to turn close games into wins as conference play continues.
