Trojans Maintaining Hope After Road Loss
By Neshun Holmes
The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans men's basketball team fell 85–68 on the road to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on February 2, but showed encouraging flashes of growth and offensive firepower against a tough conference opponent.
Courtland Sloan (#1) led the Trojans with a breakout performance, finishing with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Jordan Comanche (#13) added 16 points and 5 rebounds, while Antron Mason (#24) was a steady presence, contributing 18 points and a team-high 9 assists. MDCC opened the second half with momentum, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers to trim the deficit to six and briefly swing the energy in their favor. A scoring drought late in the first half proved costly, however, as the Trojans went four minutes without a basket and allowed MGCCC to regain control.
Head Coach Fears praised Sloan's performance following the game, noting his excitement about the guard's emergence and confidence. Sloan echoed that sentiment, saying, "Since returning from the break, I've found my confidence and feel like I'm ready to contribute and help the team win." As the Trojans continue to focus on defensive consistency and playing a complete 40 minutes, the foundation is there for improvement moving forward. MDCC (6–12) will look to respond at home when they face East Central Community College on Thursday, February 5.
