Trojans Hire Olivia Burns as Head Softball Coach
Olivia Burns will take the reigns of the MDCC Softball team. She begins the 2022-2023 season as the new head coach of the Mississippi Delta Community College Softball Team.
Coach Burns came to Moorhead from nearby Delta State University, where she was a Pitcher on the Lady Statesmen Softball Team from 2020-2022. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education & Recreation in December of 2021 and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Sports and Human Performance.
Coach Burns, a native of Coffeeville, MS, had a highly decorated playing career at Itawamba Community College prior to coming to Delta State where she was a two-time NFCA All American, two-time NJCAA All-Region, two-time MACJC Player of the Week, MACJAC All-State First Team and was MACJC Pitcher of the Year. She set the all-time wins record at ICC (46, while also setting school records in strikeouts (273), ERA (1.74), and wins in a single season with 27. She finished her Sophomore campaign with a 27-6 record (fourth in the nation), a 1.81 ERA (twelfth in the nation) and struck out 168 batters (tenth in the nation).
She prepped at Grenada High School in Grenada, MS, where she was the all-time strikeouts leader (568). She also earned honors as team MVP from 2014-2017, 1st team all- district 2014-2017 and Team Captain in 2017.
Olivia resides in Cleveland, MS.
