The Mississippi Delta Community College softball team opened its 2026 season on February 4 with a doubleheader at Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi. The Lady Trojans faced a challenging early-season test, dropping the opening game 8-0 before responding with a competitive effort in a 5-4 loss in game two.
Game two featured several strong performances at the plate for MDCC. Ella McCain (#10) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, highlighted by an early home run that set the tone offensively. Makayla Jackson (#24) also had a productive outing, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored. The Lady Trojans showed growth from the first game to the second, generating four runs and applying pressure throughout the contest.
Head Coach Tre Hobbs reflected on the opening series, saying, "Playing against Holmes CC gave us the test we needed early to prepare us for the rest. Of course, we always want to come out on top, but we have a lot of positive things that we can grow from and we will grow." A key focus moving forward will be making early-game adjustments as the team continues to build chemistry and momentum.
MDCC begins the season 0-2 and will return home for its next doubleheader against Arkansas State Mid-South on Friday, February 6, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Lady Trojans as they look to defend their home field and continue developing early in the season.
